Rutledge Business Burglarized

RUTLEDGE, Mo.- A local business was the victim of a burglary early Friday morning.  Captain Bill Holland told KMEM News that Zimmerman’s Store in Rutledge was broken into sometime between Midnight and 6:30 am Friday morning.  The unidentified burglars targeted an ATM machine that was located inside the store.  Captain Holland reported that a cash box containing around $1,000 was taken from the machine.  Anyone who has any information relating to the incident is asked to contact the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department at 660-465-2106.

 

Edina Police Asking for Public's Help to Solve Theft

EDINA, Mo.- The Edina Police Department is asking for the public’s help in solving a crime.  Chief Ryan Bishop told KMEM News that  a 2007 John Deere Gator was recently stolen in Edina.  The department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the subject and vehicle in a video that you can watch on our Facebook page at Hometown Radio KMEM-KUDV.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Edina Police Department at 660-397-3251.

Kirksville Police Looking for Fugutive

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.- The Kirksville Police Department and other local law enforcement are seeking the public’s assistance in apprehending Dakota Wayne Gibson.  Gibson currently has felony warrants for his arrest for Domestic Assault, Stealing, Resisting Arrest, 1st Degree Assault, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.  

Dakota Wayne Gibson is a white male, 30 years old, 5’6” tall, 180 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes.  Gibson has the word “HONKY” tattooed on his chest and Browning deer head logo on his abdomen.  His left arm is sleeved out with tattoos to include fishing lures, a woman, skulls, iron cross and anchor.  Gibson has the names “MCFARLAND” and “MAHURIN”, as well as skulls and demon faces tattooed on his right arm.  Gibson has a tattoo on his back that reads “LAKEY” and tattoos on his left leg of arrow heads, “660” and doodles.  Gibson sometimes wears eye glasses. 

Dakota Gibson has fled from law enforcement on two occasions in the last 30 days.  The first of which occurred in Kirksville on May 22, 2024 when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle Gibson was driving.  Gibson did not stop and fled the vehicle on foot on Missouri Street, west of Osteopathy Street.  Law enforcement were unable to apprehend Gibson on that date.  On June 20, 2024, law enforcement received a report that Gibson was seen with a female and a white minivan in the rural southwest part of Adair County.  An Adair County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop the white van Gibson was driving and Gibson again fled.  Gibson later fled this vehicle on foot and entered a heavily wooded area near Montgomery Woods Conservation Area.  Several agencies including the Kirksville Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Conservation Department, Brookfield Police Department, and Linn County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the search but were unable to apprehend Gibson. 
                                                                   
Police would also like to remind the public that anyone providing assistance such as transportation, lodging or financial help to a wanted person can be charged with hindering prosecution.

MONTROSE, Ia.- Lee County Sheriff's Department K9 Mack will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Mack’s vest is sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and will be embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of K9 Hobbs, Des Moines, IA - EOW 12/12/23”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and NIJ certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 5,627 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million, made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.

Clark County Man Accused of Kidnapping and Sexual Abuse of Minor

KAHOKA, Mo.- A Clark County man has been arrested on a number of charges including kidnapping and sexual abuse.  David M. Sherrill, 36 of Kahoka, was arrested by the Kahoka Police Department on Tuesday, June 11th, at 3:42 pm. 

Court documents state that on Sunday, June 9th, Sherrill was in charge of the care and custody of a minor less than 17 years of age when he allegedly provided alcohol to the minor and engaged in sexual touching of the victim’s lower private area over their clothing.  Additionally, Sherrill is accused of unlawfully confining the victim without their consent for a period of time.

Sherrill has been charged with 2 counts of 1st Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both class D felonies, as well as 1st Degree Kidnapping, a class A felony.  He is also charged with a class C felony of 1st Degree Sexual Abuse and alternatively charged with a class E felony of 4th Degree Child Molestation.

Sherrill posted a $100,000 cash bond.  He is scheduled for arraignment on Thursday, June 20th, in Clark County Circuit Court before the Honorable Holly Conger-Koenig
