CLARK COUNTY, Mo.- A Luray man is in custody after a New Year’s Eve incident involving alcohol, firearms and an off-road pursuit.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 39-year old Cole Carroll was arrested just after 1 am on Wednesday. He is charged with a class E felony of unlawful use of a weapon while intoxicated with a loaded weapon, a class E felony of unlawful use of a weapon-displaying a weapon, another class E felony of resisting arrest by fleeing, an unclassified felony of armed criminal action and a class B misdemeanor of operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.
Court records indicate that around 5:30 pm on New Year’s Eve, Clark County Sheriff Shawn Webster requested assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol with an arrest of Carroll for violating an order of protection. When officers responded to a residence north of Luray where Carroll was believed to be, they were informed that he was out for a drive. Officers were also informed at that time that Carroll was believed to be intoxicated. As officers searched for Carroll, Sheriff Webster began to receive multiple complaints that Carroll was calling them from a cellphone and threatening to kill them.
After officers had suspended their search, they received information around 8:30 pm that Carroll was headed back to the residence. When a trooper arrived on scene, he observed Carroll standing in front of his vehicle holding a shotgun in the air. The trooper immediately ordered Carroll to drop the gun, but Carroll instead got into his vehicle and drove off into a field near the residence. The trooper began to pursue but gave up the chase due to rugged terrain. At that point, a perimeter was set up around the area. Troopers recovered four spent shotgun shells where Carroll had been spotted holding the gun.
During an extensive search for Carroll, he was located near Luray by another trooper. Carroll fled from this trooper back to a private driveway on his property. He was later taken into custody and determined to be intoxicated. He was transported to the Clark County Jail by the Missouri State Highway Patrol where he is being held without bond. Carroll was scheduled for an initial arraignment on Thursday afternoon in Clark County Associate Circuit Court.
