SCOTLAND COUNTY, Mo.- A Scotland County man has been arrested after being caught breaking into a residence for the second time.
Scotland County Sheriff Bryan Whitney told KMEM News that he received a call from a property owner just after 3:45 pm Sunday that a burglary was in progress at a secondary residence at 24019 State Route U near Gorin, just north of the old Wiley airstrip. Chief Deputy Bill Holland was immediately dispatched to the scene. The property owner had live video of the crime in progress from security cameras in the home, and identified the suspect as 51-year old Scott M Ebling.
Chief Deputy Holland arrived on scene within 15 minutes of the initial call and discovered Ebling inside the kitchen area of the home. Ebling was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Scotland County jail. He is charged with a class D felony of 2nd Degree Burglary. Bond was set at $25,000 cash-only. Ebling was scheduled to appear in Scotland County Associate Circuit Court Tuesday morning at 9 am. This is the second time that Ebling has been arrested for breaking into this same residence. The first time was in January of 2021.
Sheriff Whitney reiterated the importance of citizens having security cameras in place on their properties. The presence of an effective video security system allowed an arrest to be made in this case within about 15 minutes of the alleged commission of the crime.
