MEMPHIS, Mo.- A Memphis man has been arrested as a result of an armed confrontation over the weekend.
Captain Bill Holland with the Memphis Police Department arrested 46-year old Javan Brown of Memphis on Saturday. Brown is charged with a class D felony of 2nd degree assault. He is being held in the Scotland County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash-only bond.
Court documents state that Holland was notified just after 4 am Saturday morning by dispatch of a dispute involving a firearm. The victim told authorities that a woman had taken refuge at his home late Friday night out of fear because Brown had allegedly been drinking all day and had become physically abusive toward her.
Just before 4 am, Brown showed up at the victim’s home looking for the woman and a verbal confrontation occurred between the pair. Upon hearing the yelling, the victim went out to check that the woman was okay. At that point, Brown allegedly began yelling at him and shoving him.
It was during this struggle that the victim reported feeling the poke of a gun barrel into his ribs. The victim stated that he was able to wrest the gun from Brown’s hand and that the gun was never fired. The gun was later obtained by law enforcement authorities. The gun was found to have a fully loaded magazine, with no round in the chamber.
Brown is schedule to appear in Scotland County Circuit Court Tuesday morning at 9 am for a bond hearing.
