MEMPHIS, Mo.- A Scotland County teenager was fortunate to escape with just minor injuries after a car vs semi crash around 7:30 Thursday morning in Memphis.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 16-year-old male juvenile from Gorin was driving a Nissan Xterra westbound at the Route AA and Highway 15 intersection at the north edge of Memphis. He failed to yield to a tractor-trailer unit traveling southbound on Highway 15 driven by 48-year-old Matthew Devries of Altoona. The teen’s SUV struck the semi, then struck a Jeep Wrangler that was traveling eastbound at the intersection driven by 34-year-old Cory Shultz of Rutledge.
The Nissan received extensive damage as a result of the collision. The tractor-trailer was totaled, while the Shultz vehicle received minor damage.
The teen was transported by Scotland County Ambulance to Scotland County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The other two drivers involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department and the Scotland County Ambulance.
